Four PLA activists held

Four cadres of the banned People Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested from different places in Manipur, the police said. On a tip off, police arrested three PLA militants from Khurai Kongpal Ningthoubung Leikai area in Imphal East district during the past two days, it said Police also recovered three 9 mm pistols, two handgrenads and several ammunition from the possession of the arrested three militants. Another PLA cadre was arrested during frisking and checking at Heirok area in Thoubal district on Tuesday, it said.

Rockets fired at Libya capital's only working airport

Rockets were fired at the only working airport in the Libyan capital Tripoli overnight, with no reports of casualties or damage, an airport source said early Wednesday. It came within days of Mitiga International Airport's reopening after it was forced to close for a week because of deadly clashes between rival militias in and around Tripoli. A Libyan Airlines flight was diverted to Misrata airport, some 200 kilometres east of the capital, the source said, adding that preparations were also underway to move planes on the tarmac in Tripoli to Misrata. The airport had reopened on Friday after a ceasefire overseen by the UN was signed between the armed groups waging a bloody conflict mostly in Tripoli's southern suburbs. First ever bus services between Bihar and Nepal flagged off

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday flagged off the first bus service between Bihar and Nepal.After flagging off the bus from Patna, Nitish said the initiative will strengthen the relations between Bihar and Nepal. The bus services were commissioned following the agreement between two regions.The Chief Minister said that four buses will ply from Bodhgaya to Kathmandu via Patna, Raxaul and Beerganj. Similar four buses will ply from Patna to Janakpur that will go via Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi.Bus services from Kathmandu to Bodhgaya will be started by the Government of Nepal on the September 13.

Afghanistan: At least 32 killed in suicide bombings

At least 32 people have been killed and around 130 wounded in a suicide attack on a gathering of protestors in eastern Afghanistan.A suicide bomber is believed to have targeted a group of men who demanded the dismissal of a local police commander in the country's Achin district, Al Jazeera quoted the governor's spokesman, Ataullah Khogyani. Egypt freezes assets of Muslim Brotherhood charities

An Egyptian judicial committee on Tuesday announced an asset freeze of more than 1,000 charities tied to the banned Muslim Brotherhood, as well as those of hospitals and individuals. The funds of 1,133 charities were to be frozen, the committee said in a statement, as well as numerous other entities it said were owned by the Brotherhood. The decision came after a law was passed earlier this year to oversee the freezing of assets of "terrorists" and "terrorist groups". The Muslim Brotherhood was outlawed and designated a terrorist organisation in Egypt in December 2013, months after the military ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi following mass protests against his rule. The judicial committee additionally announced the assets of 1,589 Brotherhood members would be frozen, including some of the movement's leaders. Armed miscreants loot Rs 5.60 lakh from a gas agency in Bihar

Ten motorcycle borne miscreants on Tuesday looted Rs 5.60 lakh at gunpoint from the staff of a gas agency located in Riga village of Bihar's Sitamarhi district. Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Veer Dhirendra said that 10 motorcycle borne armed miscreants barged into the Kishan Gas Agency located at Riga village under Riga police station area and looted Rs 5 lakh from the staff of the gas agency at gunpoint. The miscreants looted another Rs 60,000 from one Manoj Patel- an LPG vendor- who had reached the godown after delivering the cylinders to the consumers, Gas godown manager Phool Singh said and added that the miscreants also took away the vendor's mobile phone. All the bike borne miscreants, aged between 20-22 years, fled from the spot, Singh said. Gas agency owner Harendra Singh said that this is the third incident of loot from the agency in the past six months.

Militants hurl grenades on security forces in JK's Baramulla

Militants Tuesday attacked security forces with grenades at two separate places in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. In the first attack, the militants fired two UBGL grenades on an Army bunker near Degree College in Sopore in north Kashmir district, a police official said. He said the grenades exploded without causing any damage. In another incident this evening, the militants lobbed a grenade on police station Pattan, the official said. He said the grenade exploded outside the police station without causing any damage. No loss of life or injury was reported in these incidents, the official said.

Indian Army begins drills with Kazakh, Mongolian armies

The Indian Army commenced separate joint military exercises with two Central Asian countries Kazakhstan and Mongolia Tuesday, an official said, taking the number of on-going and scheduled drills with different nations, including the US, this month to four. The exercise between the armies of India and Kazakhstan commenced Tuesday in Otar region, approximately 175 kilometres from Almaty, Kazakhstan, the Indian Army said in a statement. The Kazakh contingent was represented by Military Base 85395, while India was represented by 5 Ladakh Scouts Regiment. Russia claims Syria rebels 'staging chemical attack'

Russia claimed Tuesday that Syrian rebels had begun working on film footage that would be presented to the world as the aftermath of an alleged chemical attack by the Syrian army. During the seven-year Syrian conflict, the West has accused Damascus on a number of occcasions of using chemical weapons against the civilian population. Cave hideout used by terrorists busted in J-K's Rajouri, huge cache of arms seized

Security forces unearthed a cave hideout used by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from it on Tuesday, police said. The hideout was busted during a joint search and cordon operation (CASO) by the Special Operations Group of police and a 48 Rashtriya Rifles team in the Manuwala forests near Dhar Sakri village in Kandi area of the border district, Senior Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas said. He said the cache included two AK assault rifles, six pistols, four AK magazines with 58 rounds, seven pistol magazines with eight rounds, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), one radio set, one Thoraya phone and 680 general purpose machine gun bullets. Jammu-based Army spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand said specially trained Army sniffer dogs and quadcopters were employed in the operation. The CASO was launched Monday evening, Manhas said.

India, Mongolia commence jt military exercise

The joint military exercise between Indian and Mongolian armies, the Nomadic Elephant - 2018, commenced Tuesday in Mongolia, a Defence official said. The Nomadic Elephant is an annual, bilateral exercise designed to strengthen the partnership between Indian and Mongolian Armed Force, Kohima-based Defence spokesman Col Chiranjit Konwer said in a statement. The exercise is being held at the Mongolian Armed Forces (MAF) Desert Region Training Centre in the country's Umnugovi province. The exercise would see both the countries improve their tactical and technical skills in joint counter insurgency and counter terrorist operations in rural and urban scenario under UN Mandate, the statement said. Ruling allies clash in Tripura over submission of nomination

The ruling BJP workers clashed with activists of ally IPFT and opposition Congress at two places of Tripura since Monday over submission of nomination papers for the coming by-polls in panchayat bodies. Altogether 21 political workers and policemen were injured in the two clashes that occurred in West Tripura and Sipahijala districts, police said.
