Yemeni government forces are only around nine kilometres from Hodeida, the Saudi-led military coalition said today, announcing fresh gains in their advance on the strategic rebel-held port city. At least fourteen people have reportedly lost their lives and 17 others got injured in an explosion which took place near the Polytechnic University in Kabul.At the time of the incident, a group of 2,000 religious scholars or clerics had gathered at the university to issue a fatwa against suicide attacks in the on-going war in Afghanistan, reports Sputnik news agency.Kabul police confirmed that it was a suicide bombing."The suicide attack happened outside the (Loya Jirga) tent when religious scholars were leaving the gathering," Kabul Police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai was quoted as saying by Tolo News.Prior to the incident, the clerics had announced that the Afghan war is "illegitimate and has no roots in the Sharia law".Taliban has denied any involvement in the attack.

A UN peacekeeper from Tanzania was killed and seven others wounded when their patrol was ambushed by gunmen in the Central African Republic, UN officials said today. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said gunmen believed to be from the Siriri militia attacked the UN patrol yesterday in the village of Dilapoko in southwest Mambere-Kadei prefecture. One of the wounded peacekeepers is in critical condition at a Bangui hospital while three others were seriously wounded, he added. At least three paramilitary soldiers were killed and four others injured in an attack by militants in Pakistan's Balochistan province today. Two militants attacked a check post of paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC) near Mastung city of the province, a security official said. One attacker was killed in exchange of fire with soldiers while other blew himself up, according to the security sources. US forces have carried out their second Horn of Africa air strike in three days, killing another 27 Shabaab jihadists, the American military said today. The latest strike occurred on Saturday in Somaliland, about 26 miles (42 kilometers) southwest of Bosasso port in Puntland, a semi-autonomous region. The Army on Monday conducted a flag march in Shillong in the wake of violence after clashes broke out between two groups.On Sunday night, giving rise to a fresh incident of violence, around 400 protesters pelted stones at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp near Mowlai Bridge here on Sunday night.The incident comes after the police detained five people in connection with the clashes that broke out between two communities recently following escalation of an argument between a woman and a bus conductor.In the wake of the incident, a curfew has been imposed from 4 p.m. today to 5 a.m. tomorrow in the whole city till the unrest subsides.
