With the north-east monsoon almost drawing to a close, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, its major beneficiaries, received a 24 per cent deficit rainfall during the three month-long season from October, the weather office has said. Both territories received only 34 cm rainfall during the season, Director of Area Cyclone Warning Centre S Balachandran said Monday. Adampur in Punjab recorded a low of 1.1 degrees Celsius as cold wave conditions continued unabated in the state and neighbouring Haryana on Monday, Met officials said. Among other places in Punjab, piercing chill persisted in Amritsar, which recorded 1.3 degrees Celsius, down two notches against normal, Meteorological Department (MeT) officials said here. Three people have died allegedly due to severe cold wave conditions in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district, officials said Sunday.
