Light rains in west UP

Weather remained dry in eastern Uttar Pradesh with light rains at isolated places in western part of the state, the Meteorological Department said Wednesday. The day temperatures on Tuesday appreciably fell in Moradabad and Meerut divisions, while the night temperatures rose in Lucknow, Bareilly and Agra, it said. Kanpur City was the coldest with 10.6 degrees Celsius, the Met office said. The weatherman has forecast dry weather in the state over the next two days.

Delhi's air quality improves to 'very poor'

Delhi wakes up to overcast skies

Delhiites woke up to overcast skies on Wednesday following overnight rains in several parts of the city. The minimum temperature settled at 17.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average while the humidity was recorded at 90 per cent at 8.30 AM, said a Met department official. The Safadrjung observatory, the recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, received 7 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 AM, the official said. Areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar received 3.1mm, 4.9 mm, 3.4 mm and 4.7 mm rains during the same period. The Met office has forecast cloudy skies for the rest of day. "The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 28 degrees," the weatherman said. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Tuesday were 29.4 and 14.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Cyclone 'Gaja' likely to cross coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on Nov 15

Cyclonic storm 'Gaja' has moved westwards and was now located at about 740 km east-northeast of the city and expected to cross coastal Tamil Nadu in the afternoon of November 15, the India Meteorological Department said Tuesday. A bulletin from the department said 'Gaja' was likely to move west-southwestwards and intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. "While moving west-southwestwards, it is likely to weaken gradually and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Cuddalore as a cyclonic storm in the afternoon of November 15," the bulletin said. Owing to this, heavy rainfall may occur in north coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining districts of south coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh from the evening of November 14, it said. Winds may reach a speed of 70-80 kmph and touch 90 kmph over west-central and adjoining east-central and south Bay of Bengal, the bulletin said. Smoggy morning in Delhi, light showers recorded: MeT

Delhiites woke up to a smoggy morning on Tuesday with light rainfall in parts of the city, MeT department said. The minimum temperature in Delhi-NCR settled at 14 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius. The MeT Department has predicted a cloudy sky with light rains across the city through the day. Light rainfall was recorded in central and eastern parts of the national capital even as smog engulfed it, a MeT department official said. The relative humidity was recorded at 86 per cent, he said. On Monday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 30.2 and 14.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Weather to remain dry in Uttar Pradesh

Weather remained dry in Uttar Pradesh with shallow fog at isolated places in the eastern part of the state, the meteorological department said Monday. The day temperatures on Sunday was below normal in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Bareilly, Jhansi and Meerut divisions, it said. The lowest minimum temperature of 8.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Muzzafarnagar, said the Met office. It forecast dry weather in the state over the next two days.

Mughal road closed as high altitude areas experience fresh snowfall

As the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall, the Mughal road, connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian district, was closed for traffic Monday as a precautionary measure, officials said. Light snowfall was reported from various high-altitude areas, including Peer Ki Gali along the Mughal road, since Sunday night, the officials said. In view of the snow forecast especially in the higher reaches, Sub-divisional Magistrate Surankote Saleem Ahmad ordered closure of the Mughal road for three days from Monday. "because of the snowfall from November 1 to 3 at Peer Ki Gali, a number of private and commercial vehicles got stranded on the road, putting the lives of commuters at risk. After tremendous efforts by the police and Army more than 100 people were rescued. "Keeping in view the above incident and inclement weather conditions and forecast of snow, the vehicular movement stands suspended on the Mughal road ..

Maximum temperature rises in Delhi

The maximum temperature rose to 31.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday, three notches above the season's average, said a MeT Department official. The minimum temperature was recorded at 12.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal, he said. The humidity level oscillated between 95 and 29 per cent. The weatherman has forecast partly cloudy sky along with mist/shallow fog on Monday morning and haze/smoke later in the day. "The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 30 and 12 degrees Celsius, respectively," the weatherman said. On Saturday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 28.3 and 12 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Cyclone 'Gaja' to intensify in next 24 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that cyclonic storm 'Gaja' is likely to intensify further into a 'severe cyclonic storm' in next 24 hours."The deep depression over Southeast and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during the past six hours, intensified into a cyclonic storm 'Gaja' and lay centred over East-central and adjoining West central and Southeast Bay of Bengal," said IMD in a statement.The IMD has also predicted that the cyclonic storm is likely to move west-northwestwards during next 36 hours and west-southwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu, south Andhra Pradesh during the subsequent 48 hours. "Moving west-southwestwards it is likely to weaken," the weather department added.Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Department had asked fishermen to not go fishing in the south-east of the Bay of Bengal on Monday as a stormy weather has been predicted.

Smoke mixed with mist and fog persisted in the morning, a MeT department official said, adding that the humidity level recorded at 8.30 am was 91 per cent. The weatherman has predicted clear skies throughout the day. "The skies will remain clear and the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 31 degrees Celsius," the official said. South TN to receive heavy rain in next 24 hrs

Isolated places in Tamil Nadu's southern districts will receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours due to a low pressure over central parts of Andaman Sea that is likely to develop into a cyclone, the regional meterological department Friday said. However, Chennai along with other northern districts are unlikely to be affected by the phenomenon. In a release, the weather department said the low pressure area over Gulf of Thailand and adjoining Malay peninsula now lies over central parts of Andaman sea and neighborhood with an associated cyclonic circulation. "It is very likely to become more marked during next 24 hours, move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression during subsequent 24 hours and cyclone thereafter," it said. Southern districts that is likely to receive heavy rainfall include Thoothukudi, Tiruchendur, among others.
