Smoggy morning in city

Delhiites woke up to a cold but smoggy morning with the minimum temperature settling at 11 degrees Celsius, according to the MeT department. Smoke mixed with mist and fog persisted in the city even after sunrise as the wind was calm, said a MeT department official. The minimum temperature was 11 degrees Celsius, three notches below the average for the season, he said. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 26.3 degrees Celsius. Clear skies with possibility of haze is forecast for later hours of the day, he said. Relative humidity was 86 percent at 8.30 AM. Yesterday, the maximum temperature was 27 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius.

Himachal Pradesh: Manali-Leh highway re-opens

After days of blockade due to heavy snowfall, Manali-Leh Highway re-opened on Wednesday following the snow clearing operation by Border Roads Organisation (BRO).The BRO ploughed up several feet thick snow at Rohtang pass.Incessant snowfall in various mountain passes in the state had brought vehicular traffic to a standstill.Last week, around 70 people were rescued from the Lahaul-Spiti valley after the Manali-Leh Highway was blocked.The mercury dipped in various parts of the state following the heavy snowfall. In the past few days, Lahaul and Spiti recorded the lowest temperature in the state at -2.1 degree Celsius, while the temperature in Kalpa touched -0.6 degree Celsius.The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall across the state in the next few days.The extreme weather condition has hampered the connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir also.

Srinagar records coldest night of season, mercury settles below freezing point

Srinagar witnessed the coldest night of the season on Wednesday with the mercury settling below the freezing point for the first time, even as the weatherman forecast a spell of wet weather this weekend. The minimum temperature in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir settled at a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department here said. He said the night temperature in Srinagar was nearly five degrees below normal for this time of the season. The minimum temperature at other places across Kashmir Valley as well as Ladakh region also stayed below the freezing point, the official said. The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded the minimum of minus 6.6 degree Celsius, while Pahalgam health resort, which serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, registered a low of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius, he said. Pleasant weather conditions prevailed in the national capital Tuesday, with the maximum temperature settling at 28 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 15.3 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal, a Met department official. The humidity oscillated between 84 and 25 per cent. Maximum temperature drops in Delhi

As a thick haze engulfed the national capital two days ahead of Diwali, the maximum temperature plunged to settle at 25.8 degrees Celsius, five notches below the season's average and the lowest recorded this year so far. The minimum temperature settled at 14.8 degrees Celsius, also the lowest of the season so far, said a Met department official. Visibility was 1,000 metres at 5.30 AM which dropped to 500 meters at 8.30 AM. It again improved to 800 metres at 11.30. The humidity oscillated between 96 and 49 per cent. The Met office has forecast clear skies for tomorrow though there is likely to be mist and shallow fog in the morning. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 27 and 12 degrees Celsius respectively," the weatherman said. Yesterday, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 29.7 and 18 degrees Celsius respectively.

Light rains occur at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh

Light rains occurred at isolated places over eastern Uttar Pradesh, while the weather over its western region remained dry. According to the Meteorological (MeT) department, the day temperatures in Allahabad, Varanasi and Jhansi divisions were above normal on Sunday. The highest maximum temperature in the state was 35.8 degrees Celsius recorded in Allahabad. The MeT also said weather is most likely to remain dry over the state on November 7 and November 8.

People have been urged not to go the high reaches of Himachal Pradesh after the Met department forecast snowfall and rainfall in the next 24 hours, an official said Sunday In a statement issued here Sunday, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar appealed to the public to avoid going to high reaches in view of the prediction of snowfall and rainfall in the next 24 hours. An advisory was issued by the government regarding prediction of snowfall and rainfall in the next 24 hours in Kullu, Sirmaur, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur and Kangra districts, he added.

Sub-zero temperature recorded in Lahaul-Spiti district

As Himachal Pradesh is witnessing heavy snowfall and rains for the second consecutive day, Lahaul and Spiti district has recorded sub-zero temperature on Sunday,While Kaza area of Spiti valley has seen some amount of sunlight, Lahaul and Spiti has recorded the lowest temperature in the state at -2.1 degree Celsius, while the temperature in Kalpa has reached -0.6 degree Celsius.The sudden dip in temperature has lead to the freezing of Chandrabhaga river in Pattan valley.In Kalpa, connectivity has been hampered owing to excessive snow on roads and atop cars in the district.Snow-clad mountains were also seen in parts of Kinnaur.On Friday, around 70 people were rescued from the Lahaul Spiti valley after the vehicular movement was shut on the Manali-Leh Highway due to heavy snowfall. Heavy snowfall in Kashmir, Himachal, Uttarakhand

Heavy rain and snowfall lashed Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttarakhand on Saturday due to Western Disturbance, bringing down the mercury in the hill states. Surface and air links between the Kashmir Valley and rest of the country were snapped while Srinagar witnessed snowfall in November for the first time since 2009. "In the last two decades, it was only the fourth time that it has snowed in Srinagar in November with 2009, 2008 and 2004 being the earlier instances," an official of the MeT Department said. Reports of heavy snowfall were received from other district headquarters and major towns of the Valley as well, officials said, adding that it continued to snow in the higher reaches of Kashmir for the second day, triggering avalanches in some parts of Gurez in Bandipora district. A spokesman of the Traffic Department said the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the arterial road connecting the valley with rest of the country, has been closed for vehicular traffic .
