DMK's Stalin, Kanimozhi cast their votes in Chennai

Chennai, Apr 18 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin and party's Lok Sabha candidate from Thoothukudi Kanimozhi cast their votes in Chennai. Kanimozhi's residence was raided by EC officials a day before second phase of LS polls. Voting for 38 Parliamentary seats is underway in Tamil Nadu.

Newly-married couple turn up for voting in J-K's Udhampur

Mathura (UP)/ Bengaluru (Karnataka)/Doda (J-K): Voting for second phase of 17th Lok Sabha elections kicked off across India today. People of India will exercise their right to vote across India in 11 states Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and one union territory Puducherry. Voting will be cast for 95 Parliamentary seats. Security arrangements have been tightened at the polling stations. Election Commission has postponed polls for Tripura (East) seat citing the reason of 'prevailing law and order situation not conducive to hold elections'. President Ram Nath Kovind rescinded polls in Vellore over EC's recommendation over seizures of massive amount of illegal cash. Next (3rd) phase of LS polls will be held on April 23.

Uber allows Saudi women drivers to choose female passengers

New Delhi, Apr 18 (ANI): After running a pilot program to understand the preference of women drivers in Saudi Arabia, Uber has officially introduced a feature to let the drivers decide the riders. Uber announced the introduction of its 'Passenger Preference' feature in Saudi Arabia for the female drivers. Last year, the pilot program found that 74 per cent of prospective women drivers would only be interested in driving with women riders. Saudi Arabia lifted a ban on women drivers as a step towards a progressive society in June 2018.

Commonly used diabetic drug - Metformin, beneficial for non-diabetic patients

New Delhi, Apr 18 (ANI): A new study claims that 'Metformin', a commonly used diabetes drug, has the potential to reduce the risk of heart diseases in non-diabetic patients. Researchers also claim that Metformin could reverse the harmful thickening of the heart muscle that leads to cardiovascular diseases. The study was published in the medical journal European Heart. The study showed that Metformin, used to treat type 2 diabetes safely for the last six decades, reduced left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients with pre-diabetes and pre-existing heart disease. LVH is the thickening of the muscle wall in the heart's left pumping chamber and is a serious risk factor for future heart attack, stroke and heart failure. LVH is often a silent symptom and most people do not know they have it prior to experiencing a heart attack or stroke. Large studies have previously shown that patients with LVH are at higher risk of adverse cardiovascular events and reducing LVH can substantially reduce
