Police clears protest site at Jamia amid lockdown in national capital

New Delhi, Mar 24 (ANI): Delhi police cleared the protest site outside Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) amid complete lockdown in the national capital on March 24. JMI had temporarily suspended the protest on March 21 at Gate no. 7 in view of coronavirus. Police also used drones to monitor the area.

Sensex, Nifty volatile after early gains, IT and FMCG stocks up

New Delhi, Mar 24 (ANI): Equity benchmark indices erased early gains in a choppy trade during early hours on Tuesday after the US Federal Reserve announced unprecedented measures to support the economy reeling from coronavirus pandemic. At 10:15 am, the BSE S-P Sensex was down by 40 points to 25,941 while the Nifty 50 edged lower by 20 points to 7,591. Sectoral indices at the National Stock Exchange were mixed with Nifty IT ticking up by 4.1 per cent, pharma by 2.8 per cent, and FMCG by 1.5 per cent. But Nifty private bank was down by 1.4 per cent and realty by 1.3 per cent. Among stocks, IT major Infosys was the top gainer, moving up 7.9 per cent to Rs 568.40 per share. Tech Mahindra edged up by 3.8 per cent, HCL Technologies by 3.5 per cent and Wipro by 3.4 per cent. Index heavyweight Reliance Industries was up by 3.1 per cent to Rs 911.65 while FMCG majors Hindustan Lever and Britannia gained by 6.1 per cent and 2.8 per cent respectively

J and K shuts down due to COVID-19 outbreak

Srinagar/ Doda (J and K), Mar 24 (ANI): A complete lockdown has been imposed in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The lockdown is imposed in wake of coronavirus outbreak. Quiet streets were seen in Srinagar. Police forces were also deployed in Srinagar to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, police forces roamed around in J and K's Doda. J and K will remain under lockdown till March 31.

Streets of Gujarat, Kerala remain quiet as states under lockdown amid COVID-19 outbreak

Ahmedabad (Gujarat)/ Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Mar 24 (ANI): People restricted their movements on roads in Gujarat's Ahmedabad as the entire state in under lockdown till March 31. The state borders have also been sealed in view of deadly COVID-19 pandemic. The total number of confirmed cases in Gujarat is 30, which includes one death till now. Meanwhile, a day after lockdown in Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram streets were seen quiet in wake of coronavirus. Kerala has been worst hit by coronavirus with 99 cases so far.

Delhi police clears Shaheen Bagh protest site amid lockdown over COVID-19

New Delhi, Mar 24 (ANI): After Delhi government imposed curfew in the national capital police cleared the protest site in Shaheen Bagh area. The decision was taken amid complete lockdown in Delhi, in wake of coronavirus. The site was cleared almost after 100 days. Protestors were protesting here against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Security is also tightened in the area. DCP of South East Delhi, RP Meena said, "People at the protest site in Shaheen Bagh were requested today to clear the site as lockdown has been imposed. But after they refused, action was taken against violators as the assembly was unlawful. Protest site has been cleared. Some protestors have been detained." Around 30 positive cases of coronavirus reported in Delhi as of now.

People flock to wholesale markets in UP, West Bengal amid lockdown

Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) / North 24 Paragana (West Bengal), Mar 24 (ANI): People in large numbers flocked to a wholesale market in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad. 6 arrested for allegedly killing blackbuck in MP's Shajapur

Shajapur (Madhya Pradesh), Mar 24 (ANI): Around six persons were arrested for allegedly killing a blackbuck in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur district on March 23. The incident took place in Maksi area of Shajapur. The carcass of the blackbuck and a rifle has been recovered. Further investigation is underway in this regard.

Study reveals increasing global rates of liver cancer

New Delhi, Mar 24 (ANI): Despite the advances aimed at preventing liver cancer, new research has revealed rising rates of the disease around the world. The findings were published early online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society (ACS). Globally, liver cancer cases diagnosed before the age of 30 years decreased from 17,381 in 1990 to 14,661 in 2017, but they increased in people aged 30-59 years and 60 years and older from 216,561 and 241,189 in 1990 to 359,770 and 578,344 in 2017, respectively. When applying age adjustments (to allow populations to be compared when the age profiles of the populations are different), the team found that the incidences of liver cancer diagnosed before age 30 years and from 30-59 years decreased in both sexes, whereas in older adults, rates increased in males and remained stable in females. Compared with women, men had a more dramatic increase in liver cancer diagnosed at aged 60 years and older and a milder decrease in cases

COVID-19 outbreak: Security tightened at Delhi-Gurugram border amid lockdown

New Delhi, Mar 24 (ANI): Security has been beefed up at Delhi-Gurugram border amid complete lockdown in the national capital. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a complete lockdown on March 23 which will continue till March 31. There are 30 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Delhi. CM Kejriwal listed various provisions which are to be followed during the lockdown period and said that actions will be taken against anyone violating the order. COVID-19 outbreak: Filing FIR against people for violating orders amid lockdown, says Ghaziabad SSP

Ghaziabad (UP), Mar 24 (ANI): While speaking to ANI, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Ghaziabad, Kalanidhi Naithani spoke on lockdown amid coronavirus threat. Bihar CM announces 1 month free supplies for ration card holders

Patna (Bihar), Mar 23 (ANI): A day after Bihar government announced lockdown in the state in view of COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on March 23 declared one month free supplies for ration card holders. He said, "Families having ration cards will get free ration for 1 month and pensioners will get 3 months' pension in advance. Every family having ration cards in lockdown areas will get Rs 1000. Students of Class 1 to Class 12 will get scholarships till March 31. All doctors and medical staff in #Bihar will get an amount equivalent to their one month of basic pay as encouragement on cornavirus pandemic." The total number of confirmed cases in Bihar is 2 including one death till now. Meanwhile, in the country, the confirmed cases have climbed to 415.
