BJP MPs discuss compensation to people of Arunachal for Army's land acquisition

New Delhi, Nov 20 (ANI): While speaking during the winter session of Lok Sabha on November 20, the President of Arunachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tapir Gao said, "I had requested the former Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and present Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over providing compensation to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for the land of the locals that has been acquired by Army. But no compensation has been given till now." On the other side, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman replied to Tapir Gao's question and said, "I can commit myself that I had gone there, sat with the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh and cleared many of the compensations which were due for the people of Arunachal Pradesh."

Nobody died by police firing in JandK after Article 370's abrogation: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Nov 20 (ANI): While speaking during the winter session of Rajya Sabha on November 20, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke on current situation in Jammu and Kashmir. He furtehr said, 'After August 5 (abrogation of Article 370 in JandK) not even a single person has died in police firing. People in this house were predicting bloodshed but I am happy to inform that no one has died in police firing. Incidents of stone pelting have declined.'

Protests likely to continue until JNU's demands are met: JNUSU

New Delhi, Nov 20 (ANI): JNUSU General Secretary informed that their demands will be further recommended, however the protests will continue inside campus till the demands are met completely. Speaking to ANI, JNUSU General Secy said, "The meeting was between all the 4 office bearers of the JNUSU and counsellors. We briefed them about the crisis in JNU. We were told that our demands will be further recommended as soon as possible. Protest will continue inside campus until our demands are met."Earlier today, JNU visually-impaired students were detained by Delhi Police when they were going for a demonstration. They were taken to Vasant Kunj police station.

Fathima suicide case: Protest held outside University of Mumbai

Mumbai, Nov 20 (ANI): The voices students regarding the justice in the suicide case of Fathima Lateef have started coming from Mumbai also. Joint Action Committee for Social Justice held a protest seeking justice for the deceased IIT student. Students demanded caste based discrimination or any other discrimination should stop in universities and college campuses. Fathima Lateef committed suicide allegedly over religious persecution. The deceased's parents recovered a mobile phone note that named a member of the faculty as the reason behind her suicide. Chennai Police transferred the case to Central Crime Branch (CCB). The first year student of an integrated MA programme in the humanities was found dead in her hostel room.

Walayar rape-death case: KSU members continue protest in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Nov 19 (ANI): Kerala Students Union (KSU) members continued their protest in Thiruvananthapuram's Kerala on November 20. The protestors are demanding CBI probe in alleged rape and murder of two minor girls, which took place in 2017 along with their other demands. They were also protesting against an alleged 'marks scam' in Kerala University. Police used water cannons to disperse the protesters. Police also detained several members of KSU on November 19.

5,161 people were arrested preventively on Aug 5: MoS G Kishan Reddy

New Delhi, Nov 20 (ANI): While speaking during the winter session in Rajya Sabha on November 20, Minister of State (MoS) in Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy spoke on matter of preventive custody in Jammu and Kashmir post abrogation of Article 370. He said, "Right now, only 609 people are in jail. We have released the rest. Total 5,161 people including stone-pelters, separatists and some political leaders were arrested preventively on August 5." "Time to time some measures have to be taken in the interest of the nation. During emergency 36 Member of Parliaments (MPs) were arrested to save the chair of one person, while we are working keeping law and order in mind," he added.

Karnataka school introduces 'water bell' to create awareness about drinking water

Dakshina Kannada (Karnataka), Nov 20 (ANI): The Indraprastha Vidyalaya in Uppinangady town of Dakshina Kannada district has introduced a separate 'water bell' to create awareness about drinking water among the students. The objective is to make students drink enough water every day. Speaking to ANI, Jose MJ, Principal of Indraprastha Vidyalaya, said, "It has been observed that as the temperature of the environment rises, so do several health complications like stomach pain and drowsiness." He further stated that parents had been complaining for a long time that students were returning home with full water bottles and suffering from various health problems. The water bell rings thrice in a day, at 10:35 AM in the morning, at noon, and at 2 PM in the afternoon.

8 dead in car-truck collision in Assam's Udalguri

JNU visually-impaired students' forum going for demonstration, detained by police

New Delhi, Nov 20 (ANI): Group of Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) visually-impaired students, who called for a demonstration in front of Delhi Police Headquarters against 'the lathi charge of Delhi Police on the students of the university and demand for justice for persons with disabilities,' were taken to Vasant Kunj police station by police. Later they were taken to Police headquarters in ITO. The demonstration is scheduled in the front of the Police Headquarters on Jai Singh Road near the Parliament. On November 18, Delhi Police had denied allegations of lathi-charge leveled by some students during the protest organised to demand complete fee rollback. The forum demanded delegation-level talks with the Chief Commissioner of Delhi Police and full protection of persons with disabilities anywhere in the national capital with an immediate effect.
