70 shops gutted in fire at vegetable market in Odisha's Sambalpur

Sambalpur (Odisha), Oct 28 (ANI): Over 70 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at a vegetable market in Odisha's Sambalpur on October 27. The incident took place in Golebazar market of Sambalpur. Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Laterwards, the fire was doused. Further investigation is also underway. More details are awaited in this regard.

EDMC sprinkles water in Anand Vihar to control Delhi's air pollution

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) sprinkled water on roads in Anand Vihar area of the national capital on October 28. The step is taken to settle the dust as a pollution control measure. Anand Vihar's Air Quality Index (AQI) is presently in 'Very Poor' category at 362. The AQI in Delhi has gone worst after Diwali. Extremely poor pollution levels were previously predicted in Delhi due to firecracker emissions, unfavourable weather and a significant spike in stubble burning in the neighbouring states.

Air quality in national capital better than last year: Delhi's Transport Minister

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): While speaking to ANI in the national capital on Delhi's air pollution, Minister of Transport in the Delhi government, Kailash Gahlot, said, "We have already taken the steps which were codified and if air pollution will continue in the next 48 hours, then we will take necessary steps in this regard. But, in comparison to last year, the level of air pollution and air quality is better this year." "I request Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and several departments of the Delhi government that there barren lands shouldn't be misused in anyway," he added. "Every Delhite has equally contributed in reduction of the air pollution," Gahlot further stated.

IIT Kharagpur organize cultural festival 'Illumination' on Diwali

Kharagpur (West Bengal), Oct 28 (ANI): The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has organized a cultural festival 'illumination' on the occasion of Diwali festival on October 27. It is a one-of-its-kind festival, where students from each hostel within the IIT Kharagpur campus get together to create extravagant patterns using 'diya' against a wooden structure or 'chatai'. This tradition is continuing since 30 years in IIT Kharagpur. Each hall used more than 20000 'diya' to create these patterns that have a story dictated itself against the chatais, which are nearly 20-feet high with an area of about 1500 square feet. More than 12000 students participated in the cultural event. While speaking to ANI, one of the student said, "Around 200-300 students of each hostel start preparing for this festival before one-two month of Diwali. Delhi's air quality dips to 'very poor' post-Diwali celebration

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Delhi was left reeling under 'very poor' pollution levels after Diwali celebrations which saw people bursting crackers to mark the occasion. Air in Delhi plunged to very poor category, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) post Diwali. The researchers have predicted a marginal spike in pollution levels on October 28. In the wake of the increased pollution, Delhi residents have complained of a spike in respiratory problems and allergies. The stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana makes the situation in Delhi more worse. To curb air pollution, the Arvind Kejriwal led-government in Delhi has announced the implementation of the Odd-Even scheme from November 4-November 15. Extremely poor pollution levels were previously predicted in Delhi due to firecracker emissions, unfavourable weather and a significant spike in stubble burning in neighbouring states.

East Delhi Municipal Corporation sprinkles water on roads as a pollution control measure

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Just after the Diwali celebrations, East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) sprinkled water on roads as a pollution control measure. The EDMC sprinkled water in Laxmi Nagar area and the adjacent areas. According to a government air quality monitor; the post-Diwali pollution levels in the national capital are likely to be the lowest as compared to the past three years as wind speed would possibly negate the impact of firecracker emissions and stubble burning.

Tesla unveils third-gen Solar Roof

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Tesla has introduced its third-generation Solar Roof which uses a new kind of tile made of textured black glass. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the third version of the solar roof is 'finally ready' for the masses and can be installed in less than 8 hours, Mashable reports. Available for pre-order in the US with a price starting at around USD 33,950, Musk wants to expand the product worldwide in the future. The initial wait time for early adopters is expected to be a few months between pre-orders and roof installation. Over 52 hrs on, rescue ops continue to save TN toddler who fell into borewell

Tiruchirappalli (TN), Oct 28 (ANI): Over 52 hours on, efforts are still underway to rescue a two-year-old boy who fell into a 25-feet deep borewell in Nadukattupatti of Tiruchirappalli district on October 25. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam is closely monitoring the rescue operations. A team of Madurai fire and rescue department workers has also left for the site. After several failed attempts, a new pit was dug in the tunnel near the deep well. According to officials at the site, the ONGC's rig machine was called for this but it got damaged due to presence of rocks. Later, a second high-speed engine was brought for drilling in order to rescue the toddler from Ramanathapuram. Health Minister C Vijayabaskar, Revenue Minister RB Udayakumar and Commissioner of Revenue Administration J Radhakrishnan are present at the spot, directing the authorities concerned to try their best to rescue the infant at earliest. Cobra rescued from kitchen of a house in Odisha

Mayurbhanj (Odisha), Oct 28 (ANI): A cobra was rescued from the residence of a family in Mayurbhanj district's Baripada on October 27. Snake was spotted by the member of the house in the kitchen following which they informed the snake helpline in the district for rescue. The snake rescue team rushed to the house and rescued the reptile. The snake was later released into the wild.
