Former Congress leader Ammar Rizvi joins BJP in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): Former Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh, Dr Ammar Rizvi, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi on October 23. He joined BJP in the presence of party's national general secretary Arun Singh. Earlier, he resigned from Congress alleging negligence of party workers.

Yogi govt gave 'attractive shape' to traditional 'Deepotsav' in Ayodhya: Mahendra Nath Pandey

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): The Uttar Pradesh government will celebrate 'deepotsav' or the festival of lamps in Ayodhya on the occasion of Diwali where over 5.50 lakh earthen lamps or 'diyas' will be lit. While speaking to ANI on 'deepotsav' programme, Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Mahendra Nath Pandey, said, "India is a country of rich cultural heritage. It is a healthy ritual that our society should participate and support such culture of our nation." "I would like to congratulate Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government that he has given this old traditional culture of 'Deepotsav' in Ayodhya a very systematic and attractive shape," Pandey added. Diwali is celebrated across the nation which marks return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana.

Delhi Police arrests man for murdering his mother

New Delhi, 23 October (ANI): With the arrest of one person namely Ashutosh, North East District police has solved a murder case. Information was received by PS Jyoti Nagar Delhi from GTB hospital regarding admission of a lady in an injured condition. Immediately police reached the hospital and a case was registered. After few days the injured lady succumbed to her injuries. The son of victim was absconding since the incident. Police team raids were conducted at all the possible hide outs to trace the absconding son of victim. The sincere efforts bore result, as information was received that culprit had been spotted in Modi Nagar area in outskirts of Delhi. On this information, a team of police rushed to the location. After searching, narrowed down on suspect he was arrested. During interrogation he admitted his crime and he revealed that he is a drug addict and asked her mother for money and she refused. Cabinet approves ownership rights to 40 lakh people living in Delhi's unauthorised colonies

New Delhi, Oct 23 (ANI): Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, announced on October 23 that the Union Cabinet has taken the "historic" decision to give ownership rights to 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colonies in Delhi.While addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Minister of State with independent charge for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, elaborated the whole scheme. However, the minister also targeted Delhi government for "delaying" the process.

MTNL and BSNL to be merged, no intentions of disinvestment: RS Prasad

Farmers continue to burn crop residue in Punjab

Sangrur (Punjab), Oct 23 (ANI): Farmers continued to burn stubble as latest incident has been reported from Kheri village in Sangrur region. Stubble burning, near the autumn season every year, has been a key contributing factor of air pollution and breathing problems among people across the northern region, including New Delhi.The ban and action against people burning crop residue is regulated under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. The National Green Tribunal in the order passed on (10.12.2015), directed and prohibited agricultural residue burning in any part of the NCT of Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Oct 23 (ANI): A 2nd year student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar fell from a campus building and succumbed to injuries in hospital on Oct 21. Army performs wreath laying ceremony of soldier killed in Nowshera gunfight with terrorists

Jammu, Oct 23 (ANI): The wreath laying ceremony of Naib Subedar Valte Sunil Ravsaheb was performed in Jammu on Oct 23. A suspicious movement of terrorists was observed near the forward area along the LoC in Nowshera sector on October 22. During a counter insurgency operation, Naib Subedar lost his life in a gunfight in Nowshera sector. Senior Army officials paid their last tribute to the slain soldier.

Journalists in PoK protest against attack on journalists by security forces
