Chennai (TN), Oct 20 (ANI): Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K Palaniswami on October 20 received honorary doctorate (Doctor of Letters) from Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute. This is the first honorary doctorate received by Palaniswami, who became the Chief Minister in 2017.

Haryana polls: Officers leave for their polling booths ahead of voting

Ambala (Haryana), Oct 20 (ANI): The polling officers in Haryana left for their respective polling booths in Ambala ahead of state assembly elections on October 21. The election campaign in Haryana ended on October 19. Security arrangements have been made at all the polling stations in state. The assembly polls in Haryana will take place on October 21 and results of the same will be declared on October 24.

Patna (Bihar), Oct 20 (ANI): Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi government, pattern of surgical strikes is being formed whenever there election in a big state, claimed Congress leader Akhilesh Singh after the Indian Army destroyed four terror launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). 2 dead in Vadodara building collapse, rescue operation still on

Security forces capable of tackling any situation: Ram Madhav on Army action in PoK

Srinagar (JandK), Oct 20 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) national general secretary Ram Madhav on October 20 reacted on Indian Army's retaliatory measures in Pakistan occupied Kashmir after Pakistan violated ceasefire in J-K's Tangdhar sector in which two Indian soldiers lost their lives. He said, "Our security forces are capable of tackling any kind of situation and will give befitting reply." Two Indian soldiers lost their lives in a ceasefire violation from Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara, sources in the Army said on Sunday.

'This is just a start': GD Bakshi on Indian Army's action in PoK

Maharashtra polls: Mumbai group raps to spread awareness about voting

Mumbai, Oct 20 (ANI): A group in Mumbai has composed a rap to spread awareness about voting ahead of Maharashtra Assembly Polls. The group has made four rap songs in three languages including English, Hindi and Marathi. While speaking to ANI, group member Raj Shinde said, "Music is always very appealing and has a wide reach. He also added I felt that some voters don't want to hear the truth. Despite corruption cases on some politicians, they are elected." He further added, "Through my song, I wanted to spread the message that it is our responsibility to ensure we only vote for those who have worked well."

Watch: Child falls off building, lands on passing rickshaw in MP's Tikamgarh

Kamlesh Tiwari murder case: Police receives input of 2 suspects in Lucknow hotel

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 20 (ANI): Lucknow Police has received inputs of about two suspects in the murder of former Hindu Mahasabha leader Kamlesh Tiwari, on October 20. The two suspects were identified as Sheikh Ashfaq Hussain and Pathan Moinuddin Ahmed who were staying at Hotel Khalsa Inn in UP's Lucknow. A saffron-coloured garment and a towel with blood stains were found in their hotel room. While speaking to ANI on the matter, the Hotel Manager Arvind Chaurasia said, "After seeing the footage on TV, we checked IDs and informed police about the same." Kamlesh Tiwari was killed after being shot at in Lucknow on October 18.

Effective security arrangements in place to ensure peaceful voting: Haryana DGP

Panchkula (Haryana), Oct 20 (ANI): Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana Manoj Yadav informed about the security arrangements in poll-bound Haryana. He said that over 40,000 police personnel, 13,000 Para military and over 20,000 home guards and special police officers have been deployed in the state with only one mission of ensuring peaceful polls. "We have made effective, strong and comprehensive security arrangements as well as law and order arrangements to ensure free, fare and peaceful voting on 21st October. We have deployed large number of police mobile vehicle which are constantly carrying out patrolling in their assigned places," said Yadav. "Para military forces have also been deployed to 2800 vulnerable polling booths. He also said that police have covered all the 19,500 polling booths with the deployment of at least one constable and home guard," Yadav added.

Culprits should be hanged: Kamlesh Tiwari's wife after meeting CM Yogi

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Oct 20 (ANI): After meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, wife of Kamlesh Tiwari, who was killed at his office in Lucknow after being shot at by armed assailants, demanded capital punishment for the culprits, adding that the Chief Minister has assured them full support. "He (UP CM) assured us that justice will be done. We demanded capital punishment for the murderers. He assured us that they will be punished," Kiran Tiwari told ANI. Three people were detained by Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad on October 19 in connection with the murder.

Defence Experts hail Indian Army's action to destroy 4 terror launch pads in PoK

New Delhi/ Nagpur (Maharashtra), Oct 20 (ANI): Indian Army destroyed four terror launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) on October 20. The terror launch pads were situated in PoK's Neelam valley. Reacting to the action taken by the Indian Army, defence experts hailed the brave soldiers in one voice. Defence expert PK Sehgal said, "Everyday Pakistan has been doing ceasefire on daily basis, yesterday also Pakistan tried ceasefire in Tangdhar, and it tried to infiltrate infiltrators by doing unprovoked firing in which two civilians and soldiers lost their lives. Today the whole world is with us, whenever Pakistan does this kind of incidents, we should take actions like Israel so that Pak think 10 times before attacking on us," said Sehgal. Another defence expert Shivali Deshpande said, "This is a very good action being taken, we should stick to the strategy, we need to be offensive."
