Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 28 (ANI): Srinagar SSP, Haseeb Mughal informed that three people have been arrested for robbing money from truck drivers impersonating militants. He said, "Since past few months we were receiving complaints that non-state trucks are stopped on highway and people acting as militants, and rob money from truck drivers." Police has confiscated toy pistols, cash and other weapons. 1 person is still absconding.
Lucknow (UP), Dec 28 (ANI): Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived at former IPS officer SR Darapuri's house to meet his family in Lucknow. Darapuri was arrested in anti- Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi's vehicle was stopped by police while she was enroute to his place.
New Delhi, Dec 28 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on December 28 announced that those payment modes that will notified from Jan 01, 2020 will not have to bear charges of Merchant Discount Rate. Sitharaman announced the decision after holding pre-budget consultations with the chief of public sector banks in the national capital.
Sikar (Rajasthan), Dec 28 (ANI): Rajasthan's Sikar freezes as temperature dipped further down. Snowflakes were seen on the plants. According to IMD, minimum temperature recorded in Sikar was -1 Degree Celsius on Dec 28. Locals were seen setting up bonfire to grasp heat. Normal life has been thrown out of gear. Guwahati (Assam), Dec 28 (ANI): Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi hits out at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) while addressing a public gathering in Assam's Guwahati. Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Dec 28 (ANI): Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram led a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Thiruvananthapuram on December 28. Addressing a rally at the event, he said, "Mr. Amit Shah must go back and listen to the debates in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. He did not answer a single question and now he is challenging Mr Rahul Gandhi for a debate on it. Everything is wrong about this law."
Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir), Dec 28 (ANI): Residential areas of border village in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district was targeted by Pakistani rangers during wee hours of December 28. At least three houses were damaged in heavy mortar shellings. Indian Army gave befitting reply to Pakistan's unprovoked firing. Residents of border villages are facing acute problems since past few months as Pakistan continues to violate ceasefire. Speaking to ANI, a local said, "The damage continues to happen (due to mortar shelling). We can't even step out during the firing. Even our under-construction house was badly damaged during one of the mortar shellings."
Chennai, Dec 28 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath held a protest rally towards Governor Banwarilal Purohit"s residence on December 28 in Chennai. They are protesting against Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the proposed NRC. Large number of demonstrators took part in the anti-CAA rally. Nation-wide protests have intensified after implementation of the new Citizenship Act. The new Citizenship Act gives Indian citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from three neighbouring countries i.e., Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Meerut (UP), Dec 28 (ANI): While speaking to ANI in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on December 28, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Meerut Zone, Prashant Kumar, spoke on viral video of Meerut Superintendent of Police (SP), Akhilesh Narayan Singh, during Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests. He said, "Stones were being pelted, anti-India and pro-neighbouring country slogans were being raised there. Situation was very tense. Popular Front of India (PFI) pamphlets were being distributed. This was despite all appeals, including by religious leaders." "Yes, if situation was normal then choice of words could have been better, but that day the situation was extremely volatile, our officers showed a lot of restraint, there was no firing by Police," ADG added. On December 20, Meerut SP was caught on camera telling protesters to go to Pakistan.
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Dec 28 (ANI): Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram took a jibe at Army Chief General Bipin Rawat's remark on protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Chidambaram said, "DGP and Army General are being asked to support government, it's a shame. Let me appeal to Genaral Rawat, you head the Army and mind your business. It's not business of Army to tell politicians what we should do, just as it's not our business to tell you how to fight a war."
Lucknow (UP), Dec 28 (ANI): A man breached security of Congress general secretary for Uttar Pradesh East, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, at a party event in Lucknow on Congress foundation day. He wanted to meet Priyanka Gandhi. Speaking to ANI, Gurmeet Singh, the man who breached Priyankah's security said, "I was a part of youth Congress, but right now I am not at any post. I met Priyanka ji, and she said I'll get a post next time. I had no appointment with her and I am extremely sorry for breaching the security."
Chandigarh, Dec 28 (ANI): Former Air Force chief Birender Singh Dhanoa spoke to ANI on his earlier statement 'Government rejected Air Force plans to strike Pakistan after Parliament attack, 26/11' and asserted that IAF had the plan ready, but it was a political decision. "After the JandK Assembly attack, from 2001 onwards IAF had prepared a plan on how to strike terrorist camps. Indian Air Force always had the plan ready; we had the position strike capability. Moradabad (UP)/ Varanasi (UP), Dec 28 (ANI): Dense fog engulfed several areas of Uttar Pradesh on December 28. Commuters faced problems due to low visibility. Speaking to ANI, a bus driver in Moradabad said, "Cold has increased to a level; we are facing problems due to low visibility and driving just with an idea." Locals in Moradabad flocked to tea stalls in order to grasp heat. People were also seen setting up bonfire as cold wave intensified in Varanasi.
