Puducherry, Dec 25 (ANI): The nation is dipped in festive mood as Christmas has arrived. Locals gathered at Nellithope Church in Puducherry to celebrate the festival. Chief Minister of Puducherry, V Narayanasamy was also present during the festive prayers along with others. The church was beautifully decorated with fairy lights. Christmas is an annual festival, which is celebrated with great fervour on Dec 25, commemorating birth of Jesus Christ.

Temples set up heat blowers to keep idols of Gods, Goddesses warm in Kanpur

Kanpur (UP) / Ayodhya (UP), Dec 25 (ANI): Temperature has dipped in Uttar Pradesh due to heavy snowfall in parts of North India. A layer of fog canopied Kanpur on Dec 25. Locals were seen setting up bonfires to keep themselves warm. Meanwhile, temples in Kanpur had set up heat blowers to keep the idols of Gods and Goddesses warm. Cold waves were also intensified in Ayodhya. People were seen taking support of bonfires and hot tea to stay warm.

BJP leaders remember Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 95th birth anniversary

New Delhi, Dec 25 (ANI): While speaking to ANI in the national capital on former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 95th birth anniversary, leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said, "Every year we come here but now Atal Bihari Vajpayee is not with us but we can never forget him." "Entire countrymen can never forget him," he added. "Today also the ideology of Atal ji is alive," Hussain further stated. Speaking to ANI, the Minister of State (MoS) for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Anurag Thakur added, "Across nation BJP celebrates this day as 'good governance day' to remember Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his 95th birth anniversary."

Rohtang tunnel will now be known as Atal Tunnel: PM Modi

New Delhi, Dec 25 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness over the new project and asserted that from now onwards Rohtang tunnel will be known as Atal tunnel. "Today an important project that is very important for the country has been dedicated to Atal ji. Rohtang Tunnel connecting Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, and connecting Manali with Leh, will now be known as Atal Tunnel," said PM Modi.

9 injured in road accident on Mumbai-Pune expressway

Pune (Maharashtra), Dec 25 (ANI): At least nine children received severe injuries in a road mishap in Maharashtra's Pune. Injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. The accident took place on Mumbai-Pune National Highway. Further investigation is underway. More details are awaited.

No difference between NPR and NRC, Home Minister is misleading country: Asaduddin Owaisi

Hyderabad, Dec 25 (ANI): All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao over the implementation of NPR in the state. He said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah is misleading the country about National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). He said, "There is no difference between National Population Register (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). The Union Home Minister is misleading the country. All political parties will be together in protesting against this."

Stage all set for PM Modi to unveil Atal Bihari Vajpayee's statue in Lucknow

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 25 (ANI): Stage is all set in Lucknow for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unveil the statue of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on latter's birth anniversary on December 25. The statue will be unveiled at the Lok Bhawan in Lucknow. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, also visited the place to keep a tab on the preparations. Security has also been beefed up in the area ahead of the ceremony. Speaking on the security situation, UP DGP OP Singh said, "We have tightened the security ahead of arrival of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Maharashtra Minister raises issue of women labourers getting uterus removed to avoid wage loss

Bengaluru, Dec 25 (ANI): Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Nitin Raut has requested Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to address the grievance of women sugarcane labourers in Beed and Osmanabad opting for uterus removal surgery to avoid loss of wage during the time of menstruation. He said, "Thousands of women sugarcane labourers from Beed and Osmanabad have undergone uterus removal surgery. It's saddening as they did so to avoid few days' wage loss. I've requested CM to address their grievances. Govt will certainly find solution to it."

CM Biren Singh opens 'Nupi Drama Festival' in Imphal

Imphal (Manipur), Dec 25 (ANI): The first-ever Northeastern women drama festival kick started in Manipur's Imphal. The 10-day 'Nupi Drama Festival' was commenced from December 24, 2019 to January 02, 2019. Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh inaugurated the drama festival. Prominent women theatre directors from different Northeastern states participated in the festival. They performed their art so efficiently during the first day of the festival. 'Northeastern Women Drama Festival' was organised by local theatre group 'Khenjonglang' in association with Sangeet Natak Akademi and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.

Deposit used plastic to get free milk in Panchkula

Panchkula (Haryana), Dec 25 (ANI): Panchkula Municipal Corporation came up with a unique idea to get rid of plastic. The administration has decided to offer milk in exchange of used plastics to the netizens. The decision has been taken to support 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and to make Panchkula, plastic free. On submission of every 10 used plastic bottles, people can claim a packet of milk. Through this initiative, Panchkula Municipal Corporation has collected almost 5 tonnes of plastic till now. Speaking on it, Panchkula Municipal Corporation's Executive Commissioner Jarnail Singh said, "Whoever will deposit 10 used plastic bottles, will get a packet of milk. Municipal Corporation has set up vita booths where netizens can deposit plastic bottles to claim the packet of milk. Through this initiative, we have collected almost 5 tonnes of plastic till now. And it got recycled as well. We are getting really positive response from the people."

Aligarh (UP), Dec 25 (ANI): Police registered case against several people for chanting 'Hanuman Chalisa' in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh on December 24. Case was registered for violating norms amid imposition of Section 144 across state due to protests regarding Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). They were chanting 'Hanuman Chalisa' at Centre Point of Aligarh. People from different caste and communities were chanting 'Hanuman Chalisa'. While speaking to ANI, the Circle Officer (CO) of Aligarh, Anil Samaniya said, "They (people) have violated rules of Section 144 and were chanting 'Hanuman Chalisa' in mid of the road."

Imported onions arrive in WB markets, receive mixed reactions

Asansol (WB), Dec 25 (ANI): In a major relief amid soaring prices, special kinds of onions that were imported from Turkey have hit the market and are getting mixed reactions from the public in West Bengal's Asansol. According to the vendors, these new onions weigh around 400-500 grams a piece. Speaking to ANI, a customer said, "These look like the father of onions. They are way too big. We cannot buy this. We will not be able to use it in our food." Another local, however, said that they have to buy the onion because they have no other option."Kharidana to Padega hi" (We will have to buy eventually), said another customer. In a bid to control the rising prices of onions, the central government had earlier announced that it will import the staple vegetable from Turkey.
