	Ravichandran Ashwin, also known as R Ashwin, is an all-rounder Indian cricketer who was born on September 17, 1986, in Tamil Nadu. He is a right-hand batsman, a right-arm off-break bowler and one of the fastest Indian spin bowlers.</div>

	R Ashwin began playing cricket as an opening batsman at the junior-level (U-17) category. In December 2006, he was a specialist fast bowler for the Tamil Nadu cricket team and South Zone, but due to his pelvic injury, he turned into a spin bowler.</div>

	His career took a turn in 2009 when Chennai Super Kings (CSK) chose him against Mumbai Indians during the finals. After CSK was banned for two consecutive seasons, he was taken by Rising Pune Supergiant.</div>

	He is the highest-ranked Test bowler for India on the ICC Player Rankings and the highest-ranked spinner in Test cricket. He has won nine Man of the Series awards in Test cricket, the highest by an Indian cricketer.</div>
