Bijapur encounter: Toll rises to 18 after bodies of 6 more Naxalites found

Six more bodies of Naxalites have been recovered following an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, taking the toll of cadres killed in the gun battle to 18, officials said on Thursday. Three personnel of the District Reserve Guard, a unit of the state police, were also killed in the gunfight which took place on Wednesday. Following a prolonged intermittent exchange of fire that lasted for around 12 hours, bodies of 12 Naxalites were recovered till late Wednesday evening, Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said. Six more bodies were found till Thursday morning during a search in the area. With this, the toll of Naxalites killed in the encounter has gone up to 18, he said, adding that the search operation was still underway in the area. 7 Maoists killed in police encounter in Andhra Pradesh's Maredumilli

Seven Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire at Maredumilli in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, police said. "In continuation with Tuesday's operation, seven Maoists have died until now, according to information received from the field," AP Intelligence ADG Mahesh Chandra Laddha said in a press conference. He further said three women Maoists were among the dead even as the identification process is going on. One person was identified as Meturi Jokha Rao alias Shankar, he said. Shankar, a native of Srikakulam, was in-charge (ACM) for Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) and specialised in technical things, arms manufacturing, communication, the official said based on preliminary information.

Six Maoists killed in encounter in Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitaramaraju

Six Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel here in Alluri Sitaramaraju district on Tuesday, a police official said. According to reports, Madvi Hidma, an alleged mastermind behind several attacks on police, was also suspected to be among the dead. However, there was no immediate confirmation either from the police or the state government on Hidma's death. District superintendent of police (SP) Amit Bardar said the encounter happened between 6.30 am and 7 am in the forested area of Maredumilli mandal. "Yes, six Maoists were killed in an encounter in Alluri district today," Bardar told PTI. Two women and four men were killed in the exchange of fire. According to the SP, it was a joint operation carried out by various wings of the police department.

CRPF inspector dies 20 days after getting injured in IED blast in Jharkhand

A 58-year-old CRPF inspector succumbed to injuries at the AIIMS hospital here on Thursday, 20 days after he was critically injured in a Maoist triggered IED blast in Jharkhand. Inspector Koushal Kumar Mishra suffered severe injuries on his left leg in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast that took place during an anti-Naxal operation in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand on October 10, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer said. Mishra, who hails from Bihar, was under treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) since October 11 after he was airlifted from Jharkhand. He breathed his last in the early hours of October 30, the officer said. The Inspector, belonging to the 60th battalion of the CRPF, was leading a patrol of troops in the North Saranda forests of the said district when the blast took place. 27 Naxalites, including 10 women, surrender in Chhattisgarh's Sukma

As many as 27 Naxalites, 16 of them carrying a collective bounty of Rs 50 lakh, surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Wednesday, a senior police official said. Amit Shah rejects Naxal ceasefire offer, asks them to lay down arms

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday rejected the ceasefire offer given by Maoists, saying if the extremists want to surrender and lay down arms, they are most welcome to do so and security forces would not fire a single bullet on them. Recently, to spread confusion, a letter was written stating that what has happened so far has been a mistake, that a ceasefire should be declared, and that we (Naxals) want to surrender. 2 Naxalites killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh, explosive items seized

Two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Monday, police said. A large quantity of explosive material and some weapons were seized from the encounter site, they said. The gun battle broke out in the morning at a forest in Abhujmaad, adjoining Maharashtra, when a team of security forces was out on a search operation, a police official here said. The operation was launched based on inputs about the presence of Naxalites in the area, he said. "So far, the bodies of two male Naxalites have been recovered from the spot. 2 Naxalites killed in encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh

Two Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Friday, the police said. The gun battle took place in the morning in a forest of the south-west region of the district, bordering Telangana, when a team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation, a police official said. After the exchange of fire stopped, the bodies of two Naxalites, weapons, including a .303 rifle, and explosives were recovered from the encounter site, he said. Two cops injured in encounter with Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur

Two personnel of the Chhattisgarh Police's District Reserve Guard (DRG) were injured in an encounter with Naxalites in Bijapur district on Tuesday, officials said. As per ground reports, several Naxalites might also have been injured in the gunfight, a police official here said.
