Agriculture is the mainstay of the Indian economy because of its high share in employment creation and GDP. The sector accounts for 17 percent of India's GDP and employs almost 53 percent of the country's workforce.

India is the fourth largest global producer of agrochemicals after the US, Japan and China. This segment generated a value of $ 4.4 billion in FY15 and is expected to grow at 7.5 percent per annum to reach $ 6.3 billion by FY20. Approximately 50 percent of the demand comes from domestic consumers and the rest from exports. During the same period, the domestic demand
