Pune-based Deccan Water Treatment said it has bagged an order worth $62 million (around Rs 378 crore) to set up a 31 mega watt (MW) power system on PV (photovoltaic) technology for solar electricity generation from Nairobi based Piedmont Investments. This project will be executed and commissioned by the end of August 2014.
"The company had entered the field of solar energy in 2010 and have so far received orders for 75 MW solar power projects not only in India but also overseas. Out of the 75 MW we have completed two orders in Jodhpur, of 5 MW with tracking arrangement and 10 MW solar PV plant without tracking arrangement, which have been completed within 8 and 6.5 months respectively," said Anirban Sarkar, founder, Deccan Water Treatment.
According to Sarkar, it has two more projects in hand of 50 MW in Middle East at Umm-Al-Quwain of UAE and 10 MW at Gadchiroli in Maharashtra. Out of the total 400 villages, the first power plant,which will be operational by the end of fiscal 2013, will provide electricity to about 100 villages.

The company is targeting to touch Rs 500 crore sales turnover in two years from Rs 100 crore turnover clocked in fiscal 2013.
Deccan Water Treatment has also received a contract of redevelopment of Mogadishu, capital of Somaliya. The company will start redevelopment for basic facilities such as sanitation, roads, water and electricity.
Sarkar added, "Out of the total uranium deposits found in world, 90 per cent of uranium deposits are found in Somalia itself, apart from uranium, the country is rich with other natural resources like gold,diamond and petroleum which are biggest in Africa. Many citizens who left the country in war time are willing to come back after the establishment of federal government, so the redevelopment process has started."
DWTPL has collaborated with Germany's Aquasolis GMBH, for producing potable water from saline water through solar energy.
