After having failed to convene board meeting twice due to non-quorum, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing federation (GCMMF), which owns and markets Amul brand of milk and milk products, has finally called a requisition meeting on 30 June to discuss and resolve the issues pertaining to the resignation tendered by BM Vyas, outgoing chairman of Rs 8000 crore co-operative federation.

The decision to hold a special board meeting of the 13 member GCMMF board was taken after Ramsinh Parmar, chairman, Kheda District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd (KDCMPUL), popularly known as Amul Dairy, met Amul's incharge MD RS Sodhi. Parmar handed over the letter signed by 9 members of the board to Sodhi and requested him to convene special board meeting on June 30. As per the rules of the federation, if majority of board members demand to call meeting, the federation is required to hold requisite board meeting.

"The meeting has been convened to deliberate and discuss the resignation given by BM Vyas," GCMMF sources said. It may be mentioned here that BM Vyas put in his papers couple of weeks back and Bhatol accepted his resignation and appoint Amul's chief general manager RS Sodhi as the incharge MD of GCMMF to end the uncertainty looming large over Amul. The move did not go well with other members of the board.

As many as 10 board members of GCMMF had met under the leadership of Kheda Union chairman in Vadodara yesterday to chart out future course of action with regard to BM Vyas' resignation. The ensuing speciall board meeting is going to be a stormy affair as some of the board members are also demanding Parthi Bhatol to step down from the post GCMMF chairman.
