Halcon, a joint working group between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor) along with the terminal operator Clarion Solutions on Tuesday announced the commencement of air cargo services at Ojhar airport, Nasik.
The infrastructure has been developed by HAL at Ojhar will now be utilised for export and import activities by facilitating air cargo services from its Nasik base situated in Maharashtra. The entire facility is managed and operated by Clarion Solutions, which is assigned as a terminal operator, ground handling operator and regulated agent. The company has invested nearly Rs 70 crore to upgrade the existing infrastructure. Commenting on the commencement, Ganesh Krishnan, CEO, Clarion Solutions said, "Ojhar airport going operational for air cargo services will act as a cost effective and single window clearance facility for the importers and exporters community across various industry segments in Maharashtra. It will also help in de-congesting the existing air cargo complexes that are presently struggling for the desired space in and around the state."
The facility at Ojhar airport comprises of an air cargo complex, warehousing, integrated packing center for perishables, cold storage, screening, comprehensive ground handling services for airlines, CCTV surveillance, bar-coding, labelling and customs' linkage.
"The Ojhar airport is specifically operational for air cargo services that will help to reduce the traffic at Mumbai airport and currently offers both air cargo and passenger services. It will boost EXIM trade, as exporters of vegetables, flowers, fruits, automobile, pharma, engineering products, FMCG's can directly do it from Nasik instead of going to Mumbai for exports," said P V Deshmukh, MD (MIG), Hindustan Aeronautics.
