Originally founded in Nagpur in 2012 by electrical engineer, internet marketer and author Amogh Meshram and co-founded by telecom domain expert Dragos Dinu, Aznog (formerly CalLiberate) relocated itself to London in July this year.
Bootstrapped for two years, Aznog plans to utilise the IAN funds to scale its global infrastructure in order to service more users, besides adding four development professional to the existing five by April 2016.
"At present, our mobile app is available for download only in Germany and UK. Our plan is to allow the app download in more countries including the US, Latin America and India, garnering a user base of one million by next year," Aznog founder and chief executive officer Meshram told Business Standard.
Aznog's mobile app, currently available only on Android, allows its users to make unlimited free phone calls directly to mobile and landline numbers worldwide without any credits or subscription packages.
Over the last three years, IAN has invested in 64 companies with a total outlay of $38 million. Aznog is the third UK-based startup that IAN has invested in since its entry into the British entrepreneurial ecosystem last year.
"UK is known to be home for one of the best revolutions in the startup landscape today. In line with its constant efforts to encourage new age innovation and entrepreneurship across geographies, IAN continues to invest in disruptive technologies in the region," Hada, who along with Alok Agarwal joined the Aznog board, said in a statement on Thursday.
Aznog is undoubtedly a globally-scalable product and has definitely created value in the mobile and telecom space by revolutionising the sector in the countries. It is changing the way people make calls. The offline model is what will give it an edge over other companies, he added.
