Kohler takes over as head of Tata Steel Europe

Tata Steel today said Karl Ulrich Kohler has taken over as the Managing Director and CEO of its European operations.
"Karl Ulrich Kohler has taken over as Managing Director and CEO of Tata Steel Europe from today," the company said in a statement here.
Kohler, the former Chief Operating Officer of the company, will be inducted into Tata Steel's board at its next meeting, it added.
His appointment follows Chief Executive Kirby Adam's announcement that he was exiting the Anglo-Dutch steel-maker, which has now been rebranded as Tata Steel Europe.
Born in Germany, Kohler studied metallurgy at Clausthal University of Technology, where he gained his doctorate in 1988. In 2005 he was awarded an honorary professorship in flat steel product technology by Freiberg University.
With 30 years of experience in the steel industry, Kohler is a former member of the executive committee of the World Steel Association and Vice Chairman of VDEh, the German Iron and Steel Institute.
