Kolkata Metro will re-introduce printed card tickets during the Durga Puja festival anticipating huge rush of new commuters.
Many of the commuters will be not conversant in using existing tokens which may cause severe problem during heavy rush. To overcome the situation, it has been decided to reintroduce printed card tickets, Kolkata Metro said in a statement.
According to the statement issued by the Kolkata Metro Railways, such paper tickets will be issued for seven days starting October 20. However, smart card holders will be able to use their cards as usual and there will be dedicated gates for them at each station.
On an average, Kolkata Metro handles over 600,000 commuters per day. However, during the pre-Puja days this year, the metro carried nearly 700,000 passengers. The rush is expected to continue in the next few weeks.
