| NIIT on Friday launched a company-managed education centre in the city, after a gap of nearly 10 years. |
| Smarajit Dey, head""NIIT's Indian education business said, the centre would endeavour to provide IT literacy to technology specialists through programmes like the three-year GNIIT. Tulika Sinha, head""NIIT's education business in eastern India said, at present the number of centres in Kolkata were at 22, out of which there were six company-owned centres. |
| Sinha said, the decision to launch a centre at this juncture was prompted from the high demand in the IT sector. "We receive requirements for 100-200 people everyday" she said. |
| The new centre in Kolkata has a capacity for 500 seats, which could be scaled upto 800 seats in seven days' notice. |
| Sinha said, the NIIT eastern region would clock in a growth above the industry average. |
| The centre was inaugurated by IT secretary, G D Gautama. |
| Gautama said, students of south Kolkata would get world class IT education at their doorsteps. |
