After being shut down for almost a year, the Supermax Group of Industries has now decided to resume production at its Shoghi plant, located 15 km from here on the Shimla Kalka national highway.

The company would install latest machinery and the first batch is likely to arrive at Shoghi from Mumbai this week, said Subhash C Chaudhuri, general manager (HR).

“The company has embarked on a comprehensive roll-back plan, which includes manufacture of hack-saw blades, surgical blades, barber razors, razors for twin blades and industrial blades,” he said. it has identified opportunities of exporting these products in the world market.

It may be recalled that on June 30, a clash between protesting employees and security staff at the plant turned violent resulting in the death of one worker, following which the company had to shut down the plant.

Chaudhari said the company had decided to resume production as the last ten months had caused huge losses to the company. Besides its brand too took a beating as the company was not able to supply orders abroad.

The resumption of production would also restore jobs to the locals and help make the industrial environment more conducive.
