Three mobile companies to set up plants in Andhra

Together they will invest Rs 750 cr; state has allotted 60 acres to them at Renigunta in Chittoor district

Domestic mobile phone manufacturers Micromax, Karbonn and Celkon have signed MoUs with Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday for setting up their plants at a mobile manufacturing cluster near Tirupati.

Together they propose to invest about Rs 750 crore.The state government has allotted 60 acres of land to these companies at Renigunta in Chittoor district.

Addressing a press conference after signing the MoUs with the companies, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the government was looking at attracting at least 30 mobile and electronic gadget makers for creating a large ecosystem.

 

The government is currently in talks with several handset and component manufacturers including Lava and Intex, according to Karthkeya Misra, director, industries of AP government. They are looking at a production of 7 million hand sets from Foxconn's Sri City facility and from the new cluster by the end of next year, according to Misra.
