Two killed in mishap at Essar Power's Salaya plant

Accident took place when workers were cleaning one of boilers of power plant

Two persons were killed and two others injured in an industrial accident at Essar Power's plant in Salaya in Devbhumi Dwarka district of Gujarat.

The accident took place when the workers were cleaning one of boilers of the power plant, police said. While the victims were working, some iron pieces fell on them causing death to Akhilesh (24) and Ramesh (36), the police added.

According to the police, two other persons injured in the incident have been rushed to hospital where they are under going treatment.

The company said, "Out of the two boilers of Essar Power’s Salaya plant, one was under routine maintenance. There was an incidence leading to fatality of two contractual workers and injury to another one, who were then rushed to the hospital. We are investigating the cause of incidence and currently are focussed on providing proper medical care to the injured."
 

The company further clarified that there was no blast or fire or anything of that sorts. This boiler was shut and was under routine maintenance, they added.

"The second boiler is operating normally. Further, we would like to clarify that this has not affected the functioning of refinery in any way,” the company statement further said, adding that production at the plant was not affected.
