The Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers (APNGO) association, which has launched an agitation against bifurcation of the state, has decided to intensify its stir. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held by the association at Guntur on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, APNGO president, Ashok Babu, said it was decided to hold rallies, block national highways and organise relay hunger strikes in Andhra and Rayalaseema (Seemandhra) regions next week.
The employees of the state secretariat, belonging to Seemandhra, have also decided to go on leave en masse in protest against the proposed division of the state. Seemandhra has been witnessing widespread protests ever since the ruling Congress at the Centre announced its decision to bifurcate the state. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy asked officials to make alternative arrangements wherever required to provide emergency services to the people.
