CBI chief's fixed tenure of 2 years can't be altered, Alok Verma tells SC

Alok Verma has approached the top court seeking stay on the Centre's order removing him as CBI chief.

CBI director Alok Verma told the Supreme Court on Thursday that he was appointed for a fixed tenure of two years and cannot even be transferred, responding after the Centre removed him and sent him on leave in October.

Verma, who has a feud with Rakesh Asthana, special director in CBI, had approached the court seeking stay on the Centre's order contending that it was against the guidelines laid down by the top court.

The apex court, during the hearing on Thursday, made it clear that it will not go into allegations and counter allegations. "We are and only testing the issue
