Data story: India logs 2,022 new Covid cases; death toll at 524,459

India reported a decline of 123 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 14,832. The country is fifty-sixth among the most affected countries by active cases. On May 23, it added 2,022 cases to take its total caseload to 43,138,393. And, with 46 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 524,459, or 1.21 per cent of total confirmed infections.

With 881,668 more Covid-19 vaccine doses being administered on May 22, India’s total count of vaccine shots so far reached 1,923,845,615. The count of recovered coronavirus cases across India, meanwhile, reached 42,599,102 — or 98.74 per cent of total caseload — with 2,099 new cured cases being reported on May 23.
