DATA STORY: India's active Covid cases down 72% from peak at 283,849

India on Wednesday conducted 1,039,645 coronavirus tests, taking the total count of tests conducted so far in the country to 165,308,366. The test positivity rate recorded was 2.4%

India on Thursday reported a net reduction of 5,391 to bring its count of active coronavirus cases down to 283,849, the lowest since July 11 and 72 per cent lower than the September 18 peak of 1,017,754. With a continuous trend of daily reductions, India’s share of global active coronavirus cases is down at 1.31 per cent (one in 76). The country added 24,712 cases to take its total caseload to 10,123,778. And with 312 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 146,756, or 1.45 per cent of total confirmed infections.
