Germany vs Brazil: Colossal Blitzkrieg

The match touted as the battle of the titans ended up being a one sided affair for the Germans

 

That the odds were in favour of Germany was known. Brazilian captain, Thiago Silva and their key striker Neymar’s absence from the semi-final squad had ensured that. However, if anyone predicted the final scoreline correctly, he or she should get the next Ballon d'Or. The 7 goal drubbing that the hosts received was their worst in the history of World Cup. 

 

The loss at the Bela Horizonte is going to dent the psyche of Brazilian fans for years to come. For the Germans on the other hand, it was a day in Disneyland. After the first 5 minutes they were all over the samba boys and by the time the first half whistle was blown, the dejected faces of the Brazilian team were pitiable. 

 

 

Without the reassuring presence of central defender Thiago Silva the dispirited Brazilian defense was exposed by Thomas Mueller and company. The Germans opened them up at will and it felt as if they were playing against a division B team. 

 

After Mueller’s goal in the 11th minute, Miroslav Klose struck another in the 23rd minute and this helped him go past Ronaldo’s record to become the top scorer in the history of the tournament with 16 goals.

Toni Kroos joined the party in the 24th minute with two consecutive goals just within a few minutes of each other.

 

Sami Khedira’s goal in the 29th minute further added to the host team’s misery. At half time Luiz Felipe Scolari looked like a ghost who would not be able to endure the debauchery any more.

 

The Germans continued their ruthless attack with Andre Schuerrle’s goals in the 69th and the 79th minute consecutively in the second half.

 

Oscar scored a solitary goal for the host nation in the 90th minute but that wasn’t even a consolation for Brazilian fans. Understandably, Brazilian fans and players alike were left in tears after the match. David Luiz apologized to the fans for their devastating performance.

Scolari too appealed to the people of the country to excuse their performance in the semi finals.
