Nihalani defends 'sycophantic' Modi video as Twitter takes it apart

Pahlaj Nihalani, Chief of Central Board of Film Certification, known for his 'Har Ghar Modi' video, has come out with another video called 'Mera Desh Hai Mahaan, Mera Desh Hai Jawaan', dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Now, Nihalani has ensured that movie-goers across the nation are subjected to his 7-minute paean to Modi. The video is reportedly being played in several cinema halls during the interval of Salman Khan's latest blockbuster 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'.

Some Twitter users, however, have not taken kindly to the video, ripping it apart for using visuals of foreign locations, infrastructure, and programmes.

The video, ostensibly meant to celebrate the progress of the country under the Modi government, uses visuals that have nothing to do with the Modi administration's achievements.

Going by Nihalani's video, PM Modi's India, or his vision for it at least, is best represented by shots of the Tour De France, Moscow's International Business Centre, assorted images from American and Japanese space programmes, and even a solar and wind energy farm in California.

Nihalani, however, remains unapologetic. Justifying the use of such images, Nihalani told NDTV: "Images of developed countries have been used to show visions of Modi's new India."  "If this is chamchagiri (sycophancy) then I am proud of it," he added.

Expressing his admiration for Modi, Nihalani said, "Once there was Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who was called 'Nehru Chacha'. Now children want to see a 'Modi Kaka'. I'm very happy I could do this through this song."
