Disclosing this to reporters after a Cabinet briefing, chief minister VS Achuthanandan said APL cardholders would get 10 kg of rice per month, which would be distributed through ration shops. The government has decided to make use of the rice bought from other states and that refined from paddy procured from farmers in various parts of the state for the purpose.
Meanwhile, it has also been decided that the people below poverty line (BPL) would continue to get 25 kg of rice at Rs 3 as is being done currently.
On the food security scheme under consideration, the chief minister said the state administration would arrive at a decision on this after discussions with all who would be involved.
