BJP condemns IPL entertainment tax waive-off

Addressing a press conference state BJP's spokesman Madhav Bhandari demanded, "there was no demand from the orgnisers of IPL then why such rebate in the entertainment tax was given and under whose pressure,  state government must come out clean on this issue".

Under Mumbai Entertainment Duty Act,  all the income earned by the organisers of IPL by the way of sale of tickets,  sponsorships and sale of advertisements rights is liable for levy of 25 per cent of entertainment tax and if duty was collected earnestly then state could have earn the revenue of Rs 70 crore this year.

 

Recently state government turned down the demands of cashew, mango and orange growing farmers for compensation, who had suffered heavy losses due to unseasonal rains, sighting paucity of the funds  if that is the case,  how can state government give rebate in tax to body which is richest sporting orgnisation in the country, he asked
