CII task force for affirmative action at Nawanshahr

Taking a step forward in empowering local youth in Punjab with the requisite skill, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Punjab announced constituting a Special Task Force in Nawanshahr for skill development and creating education & employment opportunities for weaker sections of the society. This was announced by Vijay Thadani, CII Chairman, Northern region while addressing media. He further informed that CII through its member companies will train 1500 underprivileged youth in Punjab under its Affirmative Action Program in the year 2011-12.

It is worth mentioning that CII has been already actively working in this regard under the 4 E Programme- Employability, Education, Entrepreneurship Development, and Employment across India and has already adopted the district of Nawanshahr in Punjab.

 

A District Development Plan Report has been prepared by CII, for the Nawanshahr District which identifies potential development sectors like education, health, road connectivity, power, agriculture, social & economy, water conservation, sanitation and skills development.

In partnership with the government , CII will also conduct skill gap studies in six districts of Punjab namely Jalandhar , Amritsar Mohali , Bhathinda , Patiala and Ludhiana. For this, CII has already signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Punjab infotech. “CII is actively involved in creating a framework for bridging the gap between education and employability.

Replicating models for integrated vocational and skills programme as in Latin America, Australia and other foreign countries , CII has created seamless internship programmes with PTU (Punjab Technical University),” said Thadani.

CII will offer its services to government for building brand Punjab among India inc and attract investments into the state.

Further, detailing about CII action agenda in Punjab, Thadani said, “For this, CII would be organising a mega event called ‘Destination Punjab’ from 7th -10th October 2011 in Amritsar. It would be a mega event primarily based on the B2B concept, where our focus would be to provide business linkages to entrepreneurs based in Punjab through a series of buyer-seller meets, vendor-development programmes, exhibitions and focused conferences, all to showcase industrial prowess of Punjab to the outside world.”
