Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday assured the sugarcane growers in the state that the government will soon enact legislation on State Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane. Replying to a debate on the sugarcane price issue in the Legislative Assembly here he said, the government will try to draft and table the SAP bill in the ongoing session itself or it would promulgate an ordinance to that effect.

The Chief Minsiter Shettar also promised the famers that he would discuss with the owners of sugar factories to ensure proper procurement price and clearance of pending bills.

Right now, the government has no power to fix a price for sugarcane but enactment of the SAP will empower the government not only to fix the price but also to control the sugar factories andensure justice to farmers, said Shettar.

The farmers had been demanding that the State should fix Rs 3,000 per tonne as procurement price
