The fire, which broke out on the 20th and 21st floor of the new building of the Taj Mahal Hotel located in, Colaba, south Mumbai has been brought under control, say company officials.

The fire was reportedly caused by a short circuit, which occured in a non-operational kitchen.

A statement from the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) stated, "At 0715 hrs, the maintenance staff on duty at the Tower block at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel in Mumbai noticed a fire which was caused due to a probable short circuit floor near the restaurant kitchen since it was not operational."

"Immediate action was taken to put out the fire. The fire brigade arrived within five minutes and put out the fire and brought the situation under control by 0815 hrs. There has been no additional damage to property and no one has been injured," a spokesperson added.

However, there were no casualties reported by Taj officials.
