The city roads under the purview of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) which are in a bad shape post-monsoon will see some repairs thanks to the initiative of the HDMC, courtesy the second phase of Rs 100 crore special grants.
Minister in-charge of Dharwad district Jagadish Shettar said here plans were afoot to provide good roads to all layouts and villages under the HDMC limits with in three years.
Launching development works at a function in Dharwad he said an appeal had been made to the government to provide more funds for the infrastructure development of Hubli-Dharwad. On the drinking water supply scheme, he said steps would be taken to ensure 24x7 drinking water supply to all wards of HDMC utilising Rs 50 crore surplus amount of the Malaprabha Project.
The survey works being conducted for this purpose is under progress, he said.
HDMC commissioner K V Trilok Chandra said 92 per cent of the works taken up under the first phase of the Rs 100 crore special grants project had been completed. The government had directed to utilise the second phase grants of Rs 100 crore into three phases from 2011 to 2014. Accordingly, each year 33 per cent of the total grants would be utilised and the tenders for the Rs 38 crore projects for this year have been finalised. Dharwad had been sanctioned works worth Rs 10 crore that includes development of inner roads, under ground drainage system and sanitation schemes, he said.
Meanwhile, HDMC will undertake 185 works in Hubli and 58 works Dharwad at the cost of Rs 38.88 crore. Besides the road development, underground drainage, footpath construction and other works, Rs 44.10 lakh had been earmarked for the development of the crematorium at Gulganjikoppa, Rs 84.97 lakh for the development of crematoriums in Bidnal, Unakal and Vidyanagar, Rs 67.74 lakh for the development of parks in Srinagar, Narayanpur, Barakoti and Shivalaya in Dharwad and Rs 1.28 crore for parks in Jakkali Plot, Mayuri, Akash Park, Shanti Colony, Kumbakonam plots, Navanagar, Padmarajanagar, Rajendranagar, Banashankari, Vinay Colony and Paraswadi in Hubli.
Rs 58.22 crore have been earmarked for the development of Ashraya colonies in Ravindranagar and Amaragol and Rs 95.85 crores had been set aside for the construction of the canal check wall from Unakal level cross to Unakal cross.
