BS Reporter Chennai/ Kochi
The Kerala government on Friday announced it would raise the retirement age of government employees to 60 from the current 56 years. Finance minister KM Mani included this in his 11th Budget speech in the Assembly. The new age limit will be affective for those employees who join the state service from 1st April, 2013 onwards. Retirement age of the present employees is 56 years.

Though this important announcement is stated in the Budget speech, he omitted this part in his speech in the Assembly. Later the minister announced this in the conventional press meet after the Budget presentation. The Opposition alleged that the minister purposefully omitted this in his 3-hour long speech and this was a humiliation to the previlage of the House.
