With the Raj Thackeray-led MNS launching an anti- North Indian campaign in Maharashtra, the Congress today said there was nothing wrong in the “sons of the soil” policy in some cases but cautioned against resorting to violence over the matter.
“In some cases, there is no harm in giving preference to the sons of the soil ...but violence cannot be permitted,” Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said here.
Ahmed’s comments came at a time when the anti- North Indian campaign launched by the MNS chief had generated a lot of political heat and the Congress-led government in the state, as also at the Centre, came under attack from friends and foes alike.
They came a day after Union minister and NCP leader Praful Patel's statement that local people should get preference in the jobs.
