In what could well be one of the most innovative uses of social media, Sam Pitroda, advisor to the prime minister on public information infrastructure and innovations, is scheduled to hold a press conference on Twitter, the first ever Twitter press conference in India.
“Join us on Tuesday, 25th Sep at 3:30 pm IST for the first ever #press conference on #Twitter in India on democratisation of information’,” tweeted Pitroda, widely considered to have pioneered the communications revolution in India. Many say Pitroda’s use of the micro-blogging platform for holding a press conference may well be a trend setter. Despite its limitations (just 140 characters), Twitter seems to be emerging as the most popular medium for politicians, industrialists, etc, to express their views on various issues, especially those related to policy.
Recently, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had a live chat with millions of people through Google Plus Hangout.
