Maintaining its lead in the ongoing paddy procurement operation, Ferozepur on Tuesday procured 183,000 tonnes, while the total procurement in Punjab reached 1.36 million tonnes (mt).
Kapurthala and Faridkot procured 146,000 tonnes and 137,000 tonnes, respectively.
An official spokesperson said 1.36 mt of paddy had been procured by 1,806 purchase centres set up by the state government till last evening. The government agencies have procured 1.26 mt, 92.8 per cent of the total procurement, and the private agencies procured 98,721 tonnes, or 7.2 per cent, so far.

He further said Punjab Grains Procurement Corporation (Pungrain) also maintained its lead among the government agencies and had procured the maximum 350,000 (27.6 per cent) tonne paddy in the mandis of state whereas Punjab Marketing Federation (Markfed) procured 309,000 tonnes (24.4 per cent), Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation 281,000 tonnes (22.2 per cent), Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 127,000 tonnes (10 per cent) and Punjab Agro Industries Corporation procured 132,000 tonnes (10.4 per cent).
Food Corporation of India is yet to speed up as it could procure merely 68,452 tonnes of paddy (5.4 per cent), he said.
