Rs 1,541.26 cr electricity duty dues on 32 industries

Nalco, Vedanta and RSP in defaulters' list

Thirty two industries operating their units in the state are saddled with arrears in electricity duty amounting to Rs 1,541.26 crore.

According to a written reply provided by minister (energy), Arun Sahoo in the state assembly, the list of defaulting industries includes National Aluminium Company (Nalco), Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA)-Choudwar, Rourkela Seel Plant (RSP), Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL)-Jharsuguda, Ballarpur Industries Ltd (BILT)-Jeypore, Viraj Steel & Energy Ltd-Sambalpur, Orient Paper Mill Ltd-Brajrajnagar, Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (PPL), Maithan ispat Ltd-Jajpur and Aarti Steel & Power Ltd-Cuttack to name a few.

Nalco is the biggest defaulter with an arrear of Rs 841.52 crore followed by VAL at Rs 262.74 crore and IMFA (Rs 212.31 crore). The dues on other industries include RSP (Rs 52.44 crore), Aarti Steel & Power (Rs 25.63 crore), SMC Power Generation-Jharsuguda (Rs 20.14 crore), BILT (Rs 28.53 crore), Oswal Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd (Rs 18.59 crore) and Shree Metalicks Ltd (Rs 14.44 crore).
