WTO asks India to take greater responsibility for Doha deal

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) on Saturday said countries like India, China and Brazil, which had emerged as key players in the multilateral negotiations, needed to show greater responsibility for reaching a Doha trade deal. “With greater authority, there should be greater responsibility,” WTO Deputy Director General Harsha Vardhana Singh said at a Ficci meet.

He said the Doha negotiations reflected changes in the international political economy due to the growing importance of India, China and Brazil. “The negotiations have shown that today, the main group of large negotiating in any multilateral negotiations will always include these countries,” he said.
