Unaccounted cash worth Rs 64 lakh was seized from Cuttack on Tuesday by the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police during intense search operations undertaken prior to the second phase of polls on April 17.
Cash worth Rs 59 lakh was seized from a car at Bajrakabati Road and another Rs 5 lakh near Belleview square under Lalbagh police limits in Cuttack by the twin city Commissionerate Police, official sources said.
Similarly, the excise department has registered 2,218 cases and arrested 1,790 persons, seizing 38,004 litre of liquor worth Rs 38.04 lakh. Officials of excise department also seized 135 litres of country spirit from Choudwar in Cuttack district.

In another development, the Election Commission has decided to slap show cause notices on the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for alleged violation of the Model of Code of Conduct for publishing advertisements in news dailies even after the campaigning for polls was over on Tuesday.
"We will issue notice to the BJD and BJP for publishing advertisements in newspapers in violation of the poll code. We will seek replies from both the parties for violating Section 126 (B) of Representation of the People Act", said Hari Ballav Mishra, additional chief electoral officer. During the first phase of polls, BJD had moved the Election Commission, accusing BJP for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
