Madan Menon’s rise in Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in the last five years has been nothing less than meteoric.
The veteran banker joined RBS in 2007 from Barclays Capital to lead the lender's global banking and markets operations in India. At that time, he was merely responsible for driving the bank's India business especially in areas like fixed income products, syndicated loans, debt capital markets, risk management, acquisition, and project finance.
But within four years, he was relocated to Singapore to lead the bank's franchise there and take charge of global banking and markets operations in South East Asia including India.
With RBS deciding to re-organise its wholesale banking businesses into two separate divisions, markets and international banking, Menon has been given a new role.
He has been appointed as the head of international banking for Asia Pacific region. Menon will report to John McCormick, chairman of the bank's Asia Pacific operations, and also to John Owen and Scott Barton, co-chief executives of the lender's international banking globally.
“He has a track record of successfully building up a robust business in various markets across the region. He will be invaluable in driving our strategy, one that is based on our core strengths,” McCormick said.
Menon has over two decades of experience in the banking industry. Apart from Barclays, he has also worked with American Express Bank in India and has rich experience in corporate banking, foreign exchange and fixed income trading, mergers and acquisitions, equities and debt capital markets.
