Dena Bank to open 100,000 new accounts in Gujarat by Aug 28
The accounts will be opened with zero balance for all category of people including those coming under below poverty line

Public sector bank Dena Bank plans to open 100,000 new saving accounts across Gujarat by August 28 as part of a special initiative to fulfill its responsibilities under the financial inclusion programme of the government.
"Being member of the state level bankers' committee (SLBC), we have been given a target of opening 75,000 accounts by end of August. But we will be able to open 100,000 savings account by August 28," said Dena Bank general Manager and SLBC convenor for Gujarat Kailash Chandra Chhipa.
He said that a special function will be held by the bank in every district headquarters on August 28. "The accounts will be opened with zero balance for all category of people including those coming under below poverty line," Chhipa said. He was speaking on sidelines of coin distribution functions organised by the bank.
"Even if the person does not have a permanent address proof, his current residence address proof will be considered for opening an account," he explained.
According to Chhipa, there are around around 12 million households in Gujarat out of which 8.5 million households are already cover under the financial inclusion programme, the remaining 3.5 million remain to be covered. The special initiative has been planned for covering the remaining households.
