Protection And Preservation of Railway Heritage
Railway Stations, bridges, Railway lines and buildings possessing heritage values including those older than 100 years, have been identified and declared as Railway heritage properties. Notable among them are Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Nilgiri Mountain Railway, Kalka Shimla Railway, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus building, Mumbai etc.
Ministry of Railways have issued guidelines to preserve and maintain these heritage properties. On Zonal Railways, Heritage Committees have also been constituted for ensuring preservation of heritage characters of these properties.
This Press Release is based on the information given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Rajen Gohain in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on 18.11.2016 (Friday).
