Separate Feeders for Farm and Nonfarm Users in Rural Areas

Government of India has approved Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana with total investment of Rs. 43033 crore. Besides augmentation of distribution infrastructure and metering at all levels in rural areas, it also focuses on separating agricultural feeders from non-agricultural feeders in order to improve power supply in the villages. This was stated by Sh. Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal & New and Renewable Energy in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today.
The Minister further stated that this scheme envisages to empower State Power Utility for round the clock power to rural households and adequate power to agricultural consumers, the Minister added.
