Copper moved up by 0.21 per cent to Rs 438.70 per kg in futures trade today as speculators created positions, supported by pick-up in demand at domestic spot markets.

Covering-up of pending short positions also supported the recovery in copper prices at futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in June gained 90 paise, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 438.70 per kg, with a business turnover of 520 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in April traded higher by 80 paise, or 0.18 per cent, to Rs 433.45 per kg, with an open interest of two lots. It closed 0.11 per cent lower at Rs 437.80 per kg in the previous session.

Analysts said apart from pick-up in spot demand, covering-up of pending short positions, also influenced copper futures prices.
